Jesus is the King of Kings, but he’s not a king who desires selfish fame or riches. Jesus is like none other because he is a servant king. He came to serve and not be served. He walked in great humility and obedience.
We see in Phil 2:8, “…and being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
When I surrendered my life to Christ, the Bible came alive like never before. It felt like a constant well of truth and revelation was coming off the pages of a book I had known about my entire life. There was one topic in particular that captured my heart every time I read about it. It was the topic of obedience. For so long I associated obedience with perfectionism, performance, and doing what someone said for their approval. Let’s just say freedom would have been the last thing I would have ever associated with obedience.
But that changed in a moment when I understood that our obedience to Christ is not just a good idea, but an expression of our love to Him. Surrender and obedience are a doorway to a free and abundant life. Loving and obeying the words Jesus gives us is the way of LIFE. He doesn’t give us commands to leave us wandering, but to lead us. That doesn’t mean it won’t be costly or perfect, but it DOES always produce eternal joy. We can love Jesus with our “yes” and with our “obedience”.
We see this described in Romans 12:1-2, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Our worship to God is more than just a song we can sing, it’s our whole life! It’s our everything! It’s responding to His great love as a living sacrifice saying, “You can have it all. I love you!”
Maybe you’re wondering where to even begin! Start by opening The Bible and letting every word Jesus spoke sink into your heart. We are the generation that will love Jesus with our “yes” and our “obedience”, not to earn His love, but from a place of knowing His love.
