Woman Burns Stomach, Laps With Hot Electric Iron Over #500

A 13 year old housenaid, Monsurat is battling severe burns as her madam , Mrs Mariam Hafia allehedly used electric iron on her stomach and lap.

Punch gathered that Monsurat who stayed with Hafia and her husband on Ola Akinpelu Street in the Alimosho area of Lagos, had been given N1,500 on the 29th of September to keep but presented only N1,000 the next day when told to bring the money which infuriated her boss.

Hafia who is a nursing mother had accused Monsurat of spending the money and used a razor blade to cut her body. Not done, she allegedly plugged an iron and pressed it on the girl’s stomach which left Monsurat in pains and refused to treat her.

However someone in the neighborhood heard of the incident and alerted a humans rights group , Esther Child Rights Foundation which later reported the case at the Mosalasi Police station. It was gathered that Hafia was arrested and was later released on the orders of the DPO. When the foundation heard of what had happened, they reported the case to the neighboring Isokoko Police station whose DPO also failed to inform an arrest.

The Coordinator of the foundation, Mrs Esther Ogwu had written a petition to the Office of the Public Defender,Lagos State Ministry of Justice and National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking and reported at the Anti Human Trafficking Unit, Alagbon where Hafia was finally arrested.

It was learnt that Monsurat had used the N500 to buy a book in school as she was the only one in class who had not bought the book
